AHL celebrates 40 years - A message from our CEO, Joy Savage

Aboriginal Hostels Limited (AHL) is the premier provider of temporary accommodation for Indigenous Australians. This year on 6th June 2013 AHL celebrated 40 years of service delivery.

AHL has come a long way since opening its first hostel, Yumba, in Brisbane in 1974.

Over the coming year, AHL will have events planned across Australia to mark this important milestone.

AHL’s primary purpose is to provide Indigenous Australians with safe, comfortable, affordable and culturally sensitive accommodation. This accommodation enables Indigenous Australians to access essential services such as education, health, legal advice, training and employment that might not otherwise be available in their home communities.

We are committed to playing our part in ‘Closing the Gap’ on Indigenous disadvantage. Our network of hostels assists in the most fundamental of ways which is to help you adjust to your new community. Our hostels are located close to most services and you will receive nourishing meals in a safe and comfortable environment while you pursue your dreams and ambitions.

AHL wants you to succeed. We have successfully helped many Indigenous Australians for 40 years! Some of our finest Indigenous doctors, university graduates, tradesmen and women, dancers, artists and sports men and women have benefited at some stage or another on their life journey through the support received by staying at one of our many hostels.

We are exceedingly proud of their achievements. AHL has and will continue to actively support our people to reach their full potential and lead fulfilling and purposeful lives.

Last year alone AHL provided more than 500,000 nights of accommodation, almost three times that number of meals and countless hours of meaningful support to Indigenous Australians.

AHL’s network of hostels and accommodation facilities has friendly and dedicated staff that are willing and able to ensure your stay with us is a pleasant and rewarding one.
