Do you need short-term accommodation?
AHL provides affordable short-term accommodation for Indigenous people who are starting employment, awaiting housing or in town for other reasons.
Accommodation is available in over 30 hostels nation-wide. AHL has opened a Visitor Park in Alice Springs that can accommodate up to 150 people.
Secondary Education Accommodation
Looking to access secondary education?
Are you in Year 7 to 12 or soon will be? AHL is your home away from home while studying!
AHL provides affordable accommodation to assist secondary education students to attend school and achieve their educational goals, including their Year 12 certificate.
AHL has an agreement with Centrelink for Indigenous secondary education students whereby ABSTUDY subsidises AHL hostel accommodation. ABSTUDY also provides other allowances such as education costs.
There are currently 15 secondary education hostels across Australia that are operated or supported by AHL. Most hostels are co-educational, with the following exceptions:
Kirinari, Newcastle - boys only
Biala, Sydney – girls only
Worawa College, Healesville, Victoria – girls only
Tertiary Education and Training Accommodation
Looking to access TAFE or university? AHL provides accommodation located near tertiary institutions.
AHL assists young Indigenous people to engage in tertiary education and training - opening doors to degrees, diplomas and real jobs.
There are currently four hostels nationally, providing accommodation for tertiary students.
Medical or Renal Treatment Accommodation
Need to travel to access medical or renal treatment, or visit someone in hospital? Need to access antenatal services? AHL offers you a place to stay!
AHL provides accommodation and support for Indigenous people who are required to be away from home to access medical treatment, renal dialysis, and antenatal and postnatal care for mothers.
There are nine hostels nation-wide (including four specifically for renal patients) providing accommodation for people needing access to medical services.
Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Accommodation
Need care and support while you attend a substance abuse rehabilitation program? Our AHL funded community organisations can offer you a place to stay.
Substance abuse rehabilitation hostels cater for Indigenous people participating in rehabilitation programs. Our community organisations provide a secure, safe and comfortable place to stay, where the environment is culturally appropriate and supportive.
