Hostel Name Origin:
‘Kuiyam’ is a mythical figure in Aboriginal and Islander history. The stories tell of a man named Kuiyam who owned magical spears that protected him in many battles. Eventually, when he was without these weapons, on a hillside overlooking a village he suffered several fatal wounds. It is said the area where the battle took place even today remains an area of stunted growth with bushes that have blotches of red said to be the blood of Kuiyam.
