Introduction
Aboriginal Hostels Limited (AHL) seeks to adhere to the Guidelines for Federal and ACT Government World Wide Websites developed by the Australian Privacy Commissioner. In particular AHL seeks to comply with Information Privacy Principles (see Glossary below) 1 to 3 and 10 and 11 of the Privacy Act 1988 (a copy of the Act is available at SCALEplus the legal information retrieval system owned by the Australian Attorney General's Department.)

AHL will only record your email address in the event that you send a message by email or if you register requesting notifications. If you do not want your email address to be recorded by AHL you can send postal mail to the address above:

Your email address will only be used for the purpose for which you have provided it and will not be added to any mailing lists without your prior consent which AHL will seek by way of a specific request in writing. AHL will not use or disclose your email address for any other purpose, without your prior written consent


Clickstream data
When you visit this web site, our Internet Service Provider makes a record of your visit and logs the following information for statistical purposes - the user's server address, the user's top level domain name (for example .com, .gov, .au, .uk etc), the date and time of visit to the site, the pages accessed and documents downloaded, the previous site visited, and the type of browser used. No attempt will be made to identify users or their browsing activities except, in the unlikely event of an investigation, where a law enforcement agency may exercise a warrant to inspect the Internet Service Provider's logs.

How we collect information
The Internet is an insecure medium and users should be aware that there are inherent risks transmitting information across the Internet.  Information submitted unencrypted via email or web forms may be at risk of being intercepted, read or modified.  If you do not wish to email or send an online form to Aboriginal Hostels Limited you can send a postal mail to the address above.

The AHL Internet site does not provide secure transmission of data.

Information disclosed
Information provided to AHL will only be used for the purpose for which you have provided it and not disclosed to any other party unless stated as otherwise.  

Industry Development and Financial Viability information provided as part of an Endorsed Supplier Arrangement (ESA) application is provided to the Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts and Dun and Bradstreet respectively for assessment and will not be provided to any other party.

Glossary

Domain name - The code for the country or type of internet connection a user comes from, such as '.com' '.gov' '.au' '.uk'

Information Privacy Principles - 11 principles established under section 14 of the Privacy Act 1988. Commonwealth and ACT government agencies must comply with these principles in their handling of personal information in their possession. The principles can be accessed at SCALEplus, the legal information retrieval system owned by the Australian Attorney General's Department.

Internet Service Provider - A company or organisation that provides access to the internet for users.

Law enforcement agency - An agency of the Commonwealth or a State or Territory such as the Australian Federal police, which exercises powers such as executing a warrant to seize documentation or goods or to search premises etc.

Notification - Automatic advice of new or updated material available via Aboriginal Hostels Limited, provided to a user who registers for this service.
