About us

Aboriginal Hostels Limited (AHL) is an Australian Government organisation, which has managed and delivered services for First Nations people and their communities for 50 years.

AHL’s vision is to improve the quality of life and economic opportunity for First Nations peoples.

AHL provides temporary accommodation through a national network of 42 accommodation facilities for First Nations people who are travelling, relocating or need to live away from home to access education, health care or employment opportunities.

Stretching across New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia and the Northern Territory, our hostels provide short stay, medical, renal and education accommodation services to a wide range of First Nations people .

AHL is committed to strengthening partnerships and engaging stakeholders to ensure adequate provision of services to support our clients during their stay and to ensure our clients are engaged with the services they need to support them.

AHL’s first hostel, Yumba Hostel in Brisbane, was officially opened on 12 January 1974 and AHL will celebrate its 50th anniversary on 6 June 2023.
