After more than 30 years, Ronald Jan is ‘still here’ helping residents
Ronald Jan, Hostel Manager of Nindee Hostel in Adelaide SA, has cared for our AHL First Nations residents, and enjoyed a varied AHL career, for more than 30 years and counting.
Many of AHL’s 42 hostels have names that link with the communities they serve. Some honour First Nations leaders who have a close connection to AHL, like our multipurpose Neville Bonner Hostel in Rockhampton Queensland which pays homage to trailblazing First Nations leader, Neville Bonner AO.

For more than 50 years, Aboriginal Hostels Limited (AHL) has been a safety net for First Nations people, as it was for Senator Jana Stewart, who is grateful for the support AHL provided when she was growing up.
With a little help from AHL along the way, Australian Idol 2023 winner Royston proves he is ‘Invincible’
Winning one of Australia’s most high-profile televised singing competitions has certainly opened doors for Royston, including a recording contract with Sony Music, the release of his debut single ‘Invincible’ and spending time overseas being mentored and writing new music.
Will is thankful for the support he received from AHL employees when he arrived at Kirinari at the end of Year 10, saying that everyone made him feel welcome. ‘From the cleaners to the kitchen staff and the Hostel Parents, they helped all of us kids out,’ Will said.
