Canon Boggo Pilot was born on Darnley Island in the Torres Straits.  He worked as a teacher in the early part of his life and then studied and became a catholic priest.  Canon was appointed Director of all Torres Strait missions.  His life work was devoted to preserving the cultural heritage of his people.  Canon spent many years planning and building a cultural centre on the Torres Strait island ministry site, Railway Estate on Thursday Island.  He also preserved the spiritual heritage of Torres Strait Islander people through the publication of the 1st Torres Strait Island hymn book produced in 1974.

AHL acknowledges the Kaurareg people as the Traditional Owners of the land on which we operate the hostel. We pay our respects to Elders past and present.
