New Board appointments June 2026

Aboriginal Hostels Limited (AHL) welcomes the appointment of 4 new non-executive directors to the AHL Board, along with the reappointment of Director Reid.

The following appointments will commence on 15 June 2026 for 3-year terms:

  • Professor Jack Beetson, Director
  • Dr Vanessa Lee-Ah Mat, Director
  • Mr Michael Newman, Director
  • Mr Gohar Rind, Director
  • Ms Shona Reid – reappointed as Director and appointed Deputy Chair.

Through these appointments, AHL’s Board now comprises all First Nations directors, who bring important cultural knowledge, leadership, governance and professional experience that support AHL in delivering our services for First Nations people across Australia.

AHL’s Board Chair, Deputy Chair and non-executive directors are responsible for setting AHL’s overall strategic direction and monitoring implementation of that strategy.

With more than 50 years of service behind it, the responsibility now is to ensure AHL is an organisation that is culturally strong, financial sustainable, operationally sound, and future focused for the next decade and beyond. These appointments come at an important time for the company as we progress planning and implementation activities for the next 10 years, through the development of AHL’s 10-year strategy.

AHL also thanks ceasing Board members Paul Allen and Simon McGrath for their valuable contribution and service to the company, and for supporting AHL’s purpose and strategic direction throughout their terms.

Further information regarding the new Board appointments is available in the media release issued by the Minister for Indigenous Australians, Senator the Hon Malarndirri McCarthy.
