AHL CEO appointment

We are pleased to announce that Mr Shane Hamilton has been appointed as Aboriginal Hostels Limited’s (AHL) Chief Executive Officer.

Mr Hamilton is a proud Wakka Wakka and Bundjalung man from Queensland.

He is a respected leader with executive experience across housing, corrections and professional services sectors in government, non-government and corporate enterprises.

Mr Hamilton is currently the Deputy Secretary of Aboriginal Affairs at the Premier's Department for the New South Wales (NSW) Government. He came to the role after almost 4 years in Management consulting with PwC’s Indigenous Consulting and Inside Policy where he was the Managing Director, a role that required him to leverage the strong relationships he built and fostered in his previous roles.

Prior to this, Mr Hamilton made a significant contribution to the Aboriginal Housing Office (AHO) in NSW, leading the business through an organisational transformation, and re-establishing the AHO as a place of innovation and commitment through supporting Aboriginal communities and businesses, and promoting choice and equal access to housing for Aboriginal families.

Mr Hamilton is a purpose-driven and experienced leader with strong commercial acumen, a commitment to community outcomes, clear connection to cultural integrity and strategic reform, which is underpinned by systemic leadership and an entrepreneurial approach.

Mr Hamilton will help shape the future of AHL, as we continue to deliver on our purpose of providing culturally safe and affordable accommodation for First Nations people, as we have done for more than 50 years.

We extend our sincere thanks to Mr Dermot Walsh, who has served as AHL’s Interim CEO since March. His leadership, support, and dedication during this time has been deeply valuable to AHL.

Mr Hamilton will join AHL on 29 September 2025.
