Aboriginal Hostels Limited (AHL) is looking for a reliable and motivated part time Cook and part time Housekeeper to join our team and help create a safe, clean, and welcoming environment at our Durungaling Hostel, Newcastle. Key Responsibilities of a Cook:
- Prepare meals in accordance with AHL’s set menus, Food Safety Standards Australia and other relevant legislation.
- Stock management – rotate, receive and monitor food and kitchen supplies.
- Assist with ordering.
- Ensure the kitchen is cleaned to standard.
- Prepare and clean the dining rooms for residents.
- Assist with other tasks as needed.
What We’re Looking for in a Cook:
- Available to work weekdays 11.30am – 6.30pm (60 hours per fortnight)
- Experience in meal preparation in an industry-based environment, ensuring the safe production of quality food without compromise to Food Safety Standards Australia.
- Experience in commercial cookery, and the ability to manage stock rotation while ensuring timely service and hygiene of cooking equipment.

Good understanding of cleanliness and health standards required whilst preparing food at the work station.
Key Responsibilities of a Housekeeper:
- Clean and maintain resident rooms, kitchens bathrooms, office spaces and communal areas.
- Make sure all areas are safe and hygienic for residents and staff through conducting room inspections with the Manager.
- Manage the laundry service
- Handle cleaning supplies and equipment carefully and follow safety guidelines.
- Assistance with other tasks when needed.
What We’re Looking for in a Housekeeper:
- Available to work weekdays 9am – 1.30pm (45 hours per fortnight)
- No cleaning experience needed—just a good attitude and willingness to learn.
- Attention to detail and the ability to work on your own when needed.

Physical fitness – you will be on your feet moving around, including regular use of stairs.

Eligibility:
Prior to engagement, you are required to:
- Provide evidence of Australian Citizenship.
- Undergo, obtain and maintain a Satisfactory National Criminal History Check.
- Meet Fitness for Duty requirements.
- Hold and maintain NSW Working with Children Check.
