Aboriginal Hostels Limited (AHL) is looking for a reliable and motivated Cook and Housekeeper to join our team and help create a safe, clean, and welcoming environment at our facilities and hostels. The cook position is for someone who is available to work 60 hours a fortnight and the Housekeeper position is for someone who is able to work 45 hours a fortnight. Key Responsibilities for a Cook:
- Undertake routine kitchen tasks including
- Prepare meals in accordance with AHL’s set menus, Food Safety Standards Australia and other relevant legislation
- Stocktake management – rotate, receive and monitor food and kitchen supplies
- Ensure the kitchen is cleaned to standard
- Prepare and clean the dining rooms for residents
What We’re Looking for in a Cook:
- Experience in meal preparation in an industry-based environment, ensuring the safe production of quality food without compromise to Food Safety Standards Australia.
- Experience in commercial cookery, and the ability to manage stock rotation while ensuring timely service and hygiene of cooking equipment.
- Good understanding of cleanliness and health standards required whilst preparing food at the work station.
Key Responsibilities for a Housekeeper:
- Clean and maintain rooms, communal areas, kitchens, bathrooms, and hallways across AHL facilities and hostels.
- Make sure all areas are clean, safe, and hygienic for residents and staff.
- Handle cleaning supplies and equipment carefully and follow safety guidelines.
- Help with other tasks, like laundry and setting up for events, when needed.
What We’re Looking for in a Housekeeper:
- No cleaning experience needed—just a good attitude and willingness to learn.
- Attention to detail and the ability to work on your own when needed.
- A positive attitude and the ability to work well with others.
- Australian citizenship or permanent residency (or candidates who have applied for and are waiting for citizenship)
- Ability to get and maintain a police check, along with Working with Children Card.
Eligibility
- Be an Australian Citizen
- Undergo a Satisfactory National Criminal History Check (prior to engagement)
- Meet Fitness for Duty requirements (prior to engagement)
- Hold or obtain relevant qualifications
- Maintain or hold a Working With children’s card NSW

Competitive Pay & Benefits: $59,520 - $64,877 per annum (pro-rated for part-time). You’ll receive an above-award salary, 15.4% superannuation, and generous leave entitlements to make sure you’re well looked after.

Work pattern for this role is a parttime role (60 hours/fortnight) cover 9:00am to 3:30pm shifts, Monday to Friday.
Regular salary packaging options for vehicles, superannuation and laptops etc PLUS, ability to salary sacrifice $15,900 per FBT year for rent, mortgage or living expenses. This benefit reduces taxable income, increasing fortnightly take-home pay.
Generous Leave Entitlements – including additional days off when a your RDO falls on a public holiday, 18 days sick/personal leave per annum, cultural and NAIDOC day leave
