Aboriginal Hostels Limited (AHL) is looking for reliable and motivated Assistant Hostel Managers and Hostel Managers to join our team and help create a safe, clean, and welcoming environment at our facilities and hostels. The key duties of the position include:


Key responsibilities: Assistant Hostel Manager – APS4
As an Assistant Hostel Manager, you’ll work closely with the Hostel Manager to support the smooth day-to-day running of the hostel. You’ll lead by example, taking a hands-on approach to supervising a small team and ensuring residents receive high-quality service, including the provision of three meals a day in a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. Under the guidance of the Operations Management Team, you will be responsible for maintaining hostel operations in line with AHL policies, the APS Code of Conduct, and relevant legislation.

Key responsibilities: Hostel Manager – APS5
As a Hostel Manager, you’ll take on a broader leadership role, overseeing all aspects of hostel operations while building strong relationships with local stakeholders to support First Nations residents during their stay. In addition to ensuring high standards in service delivery, safety, and cleanliness, you’ll be responsible for team leadership, performance development, and continuous improvement. You will ensure compliance with AHL policies and operational guidelines, regularly report to the Operations Management Team, and liaise with AHL’s National Office as required. This role requires a proactive manager with strong organisational and people skills, a commitment to excellence, and a passion for delivering services that make a positive impact.

The ideal candidate for the APS4 Assistant Hostel Manager role is a dependable and practical team player with a passion for delivering quality service. You’ll be confident working in a hands-on environment and supporting a small team to maintain smooth daily operations. You demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, a commitment to maintaining a safe and welcoming hostel, and the ability to follow established procedures and policies. Hostel Manager – APS5
The ideal candidate for the APS5 Hostel Manager role is an experienced and driven leader with strong operational and people management skills. You thrive in dynamic environments, are adept at building and leading effective teams, and are committed to delivering high-quality, person-centred services. You are confident engaging with local stakeholders and ensuring residents are well supported throughout their stay. You bring a high level of professionalism, attention to detail, and an ongoing focus on improving service delivery in line with AHL’s standards and strategic objectives.

Eligibility
Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS) or, in limited circumstances, be in the process of obtaining citizenship.

Successful candidates must satisfy AHL’s pre-employment checks, including a National Criminal History Check, and a Health Declaration and/or a fitness for duty assessment.
