This Temporary Employment Register provides all members of the community with the opportunity to register for upcoming temporary employment opportunities within the Operations Branch at Aboriginal Hostels Limited (AHL).

 

Non-ongoing opportunities may be offered with an initial engagement of up to 12 months, with the possibility of an extension of up to 6 months (total maximum period of 18 months). Applications received will remain active for 12 months (until 30 June 2026). By registering your interest, there is no guarantee of an offer of employment. You will only be contacted in the event a vacancy arises that matches your skills and experience. Your application is not a guarantee that an offer of employment will be made.

The key duties of the position include:

Aboriginal Hostels Limited (AHL) is a not-for-profit organisation, providing First Nations people with accommodation, meals and a supportive environment while they are away from home to access medical services, education, employment or to attend to other family business.

 

AHL is one of the largest providers of employment and training for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Eligibility

This is an exciting time to join as you will help shape the future of First Nations people. 

Several hostel positions require mandatory qualifications/training, however, there is an opportunity for the successful applicant to obtain the qualification/s within their first 6 months of employment unless otherwise specified.

 

  • Housekeeper: requires a Chemical Handling Training
  • Cook or Kitchenhand: requires a Food Safety Handling Certificate
  • Night Attendant: First Aid Certificate; Emergency Warden Training
  • Residential Youth Worker: First Aid Certificate; Certificate IV in Community Services – Student Residential Care provided through Boarding Training Australia, or an equivalent/higher qualification (or ability to obtain in the first 12 months of employment). A valid driver's/bus licence may also be required.
  • Hostel and Assistant Hostel Manager or Head and Deputy Head of Boarding: First Aid Certificate; Emergency Warden Training; Food Safety Supervisor Certificate; A valid driver's licence may also be required.

 

To be eligible for employment with AHL, applicants must meet the requirements for the following conditions:

  • Hold a current Australian Citizenship
  • Satisfactory complete a National Criminal History Check
  • Satisfactory complete a Working with Children Check in the relevant state or territory
  • Satisfactory complete a Medical Assessment/Fitness for Duty
  • Satisfactory completion of Pre-Employment checks
